La scala parlante è del tipo a tamburo e si sviluppa su un cilindro di materiale plastico di color giallo, sul quale sono stampate su diversi settori le stazioni corrispondenti alle onde medie (mt 192-575, in color marrone), alle onde corte (mt 27,2-51,5 in color rosso vivo), nonché alle onde cortissime (mt 16,7-29,4, in color verde). Detto cilindro può essere ruotato agendo sulla manopola laterale.
