    See different chassis variants of the Zenith Transistorized Shortwave Portable Radio series Royal 1000 like the 9AT40, the 9CT..., the 9HT ... and the Trans-Oceanic Royal 1000D and the Trans-Oceanic Royal 1000-1 Ch= 9HT40Z8 which was the last model of the series 1000. There is an ad in "The National Geographic Magazine" 1957, December and we beleive the first Trans-Oceanic 1000 was introduced in November 1957.

In the book "The Zenith Trans-Oceanic, the Royalty of Radios", by H.Bryant and N.Cones, we find the following:

A July 3, 1958 press release introduced the Royal 1000-D as a version of the basic Royal 1000, but with a $25 option providing a 9th band (long wave) for "CAA weather / navigation".
The Royal 1000 and the Royal 1000-D were advertised and sold simultaneously.
