Description

This is the copy of the British NT98 and of Canadian REL 3D, same specs. Both 3D and NTA98 were made by companies related to the American Bell Telephone and can be considered as outcomes of the Tizard Mission. The GEC E1189 S/N 12 was brought to America by the Tizard Mission and its details were unveiled to Bell Labs among the others. Western Electric received a commission for a qualification lot of copies. WE built some 60 units with their developmental code D-160052. There was no volume production by Western Electric but both Northern Electric in Canada and Standard Telephone in Australia made the magnetron during the war.

The development of the E1189 magnetron at GEC can be read at this link.
