To me this is a nice example of Italian overhauling and relettering the 1944 Canadian WS-19 MK-III in the nineteen-fifties.  I own another example, dated 1960,  having an extra alu frontplate with Italian lettering. The picture can be found at the Canadian model WS-19 MKIII. Inside it looks pure original Canadian with a few new Geloso electrolytic capacitors.

I suggest a link to that model.

Hallo Jan, yes, I just added a remark and link to the remarks of the Gelose refurbished set and have my images (same set as yours refurbished by DITTA) moved to the W.S.19 Can page,
thanks for the information, kind regards Martin

Dear Jan, dear Martin,

I am not sure that such an equipment can be considered as produced by Geloso. The production was certainly Canadian or British. Some of the Allied sets used after WWII by Italian military forces were just adapted to the new use by replacing original labels all around with Italian ones.

It would be more correct to define these sets as variants of the original model. Else they could be classified as Military, Italy, since Geloso was just one of the many contractors that were active in Italy to rework WWII military sets. I do not know how many W.S. 19s were modified for Italian Army and how many of these were handled by Geloso. Several small laboratories operated from the late ‘940s well into the ‘970s in the overhaul of military communication gears for Italian military forces. Give a look to these Italian variants of BC-191 and of BC-312.

Original labels on the panels have been replaced by Italian ones. In the BC-191 the original label with the exact model, BC-191-H, and the manufacturer name, General Electric, has been left behind the vacuum tubes, while a new label with no model variant has been riveted on the front panel.

Small differences were possible among sets of different lots, depending upon the specific order and the contractor. The BC-312 above, reworked by Ditta Conti, Roma, has riveted metal plates with Italian inscriptions, while the BC-312 below has Italian letters engraved in the panel and retains the original US Signal Corps label..

Ciao Emilio, yes, I think it would be a good idea to change the Maker to "Military - Italia", then we could maybe even move the images of the sets from Jan Terranea and me also to this model - we would have both known refurbished W.S.19 on the same page.

At least the designation should remain Ricetrasmettitore R 19 as most members will loook for this designation found on the set's plate.

(Sorry I have not seen the proposal, otherwise I might have changed it directly, but my colleagues admins seem not to have recognized the set from the proposal).

If You both agree with me, we can make a proposal to change the "maker" to Military - Italia,
kind regards Martin Boesch

Dear Jan and Martin,

I just entered a proposal for changing the manufacturer to Military Italy. Not clear if Italian Army used just Canadian sets or, as probable, even British sets. I slightly changed the descriptive notes: Please, check them.

I also entered two new models for the BC-191 and the BC-312 with Italian inscriptions of the pics above.

Regards, Emilio

I fully agree with your proposal for the Military-Italia manufacturer. In the notes on a refurbished model there should be a link to the original model. Original accessoiries should not be shown with the refurbished model, only relevant refurbished items should be displayed and discussed there.

Best regards, Jan
