• The Magnavox Odyssey Electronic Game Simulator is the first commercial home video game console. It was made in different versions during the years of production:

  • 1972 model, type 1TL200BLAK (RUN-1)
  • 1973/74 model, type 1TL200BLAK (RUN-2)
  • 1974/75 model, type 1TL200BK12 (RUN-2)
  • 1975 model, type 1TL200BK13 (RUN-2)

  The Odyssey game console is comprised of 12 internal modules: RF oscillator, RF filter, 4 video signal generators, 2 ball flip-flops, H-Sync-Generator, V-Sync-Generator, adding stage and gate matrix. These modules are configured by inserting a "game" module which essentially forms part of the circuitry.

  It is capable of displaying three square dots on the screen in monochrome black and white, with differing behavior for the dots depending on the game played, and with no sound capabilities.
  Players place plastic overlays on the screen to create visuals, and the one or two players for each game control their dots with the three knobs and one button on the controller in accordance with the rules given for the game.

  The primary console box connects to the television set through an included switchbox, which allows the player to switch the television input between the Odyssey and the regular television input cable, and presents itself like a television channel. The games are operated by two rectangular controllers attached by wires.

  A total of 28 games distributed on 11 different game cards were released for the Magnavox Odyssey. 13 games were included with the console.

  An export version of this model was distributed by ITT Schaub-Lorenz in Germany under the name Odyssee. There were also a number of export models for other countries and some clones.
