The E revision was developed in response to requests for more flexibility, especially regarding attack times.

Key Technical Details:

• Offered faster and selectable attack settings, a critical improvement for more transient sources or tighter mix control.
• Continued the use of all Class A discrete circuitry and transformer coupling.
• All other core characteristics—ratio, threshold, release, diode bridge operation—remained true to earlier versions.

Notable Facts:

• The 2254/E is also commonly seen as a stereo pair for mastering and bus compression in addition to mono tracks.
• Some software emulations (e.g., UAD) provide “pull” functions to further vary release times, a nod to the increased flexibility of this model.
