  • The Philco model 116 series is a follow-on to its model 16 series. The 116 chassis has 11 tubes, a shadow meter (tuning aid), and five bands (LW, BC, and 3 SW bands: 1.5-4.1, 4.1-10.0, and 9.7-22.5 MHz).

    There are four distinct models with different cabinet styles. The early version (1935) of 116B is a shouldered tombstone with a 10.5 inch speaker; the late version (1936) is a simpler rectangular tombstone with an 8 inch speaker. Both versions of 116B use a code 121 chassis with type 42 output tubes and 10 watts output.

    Model 116X (1935-36) is a floor type console which includes two passive radiators (Philco called them "acoustic clarifiers") in addition to the driven speaker, and used a code 122 chassis with type 6A3 output tubes and 15 watts output.

    Model 116PX is a radio-phonograph using the code 122 chassis. The cabinet is similar to that of 116X, but somewhat taller to make room for the phonograph under the top lid.
