  • The Everyman Four was a popular four‑valve receiver design published in Wireless Weekly (Sydney) in August 1927. It was intended for home construction and used readily available Australian components. The design offered strong local‑station performance and good interstate reception when properly adjusted.

    The design featured two Aladdin 3‑Coil Universal Tuners, marketed as the Aladdin Universal Tuner. These tuners were manufactured by Aladdin Radio Co. Pty. Ltd., and also distributed by Airzone Ltd., Sydney. These tuners simplified circuit assembly by combining primary, secondary, and reaction coils in a compact unit, eliminating complex wiring and coil‑changing. Each tuner was supplied with a diagram showing four circuit configurations.

    Circuit Description
    The Everyman Four used:

    • One Aladdin tuner as the reaction (detector) stage,
    • The second as the radio‑frequency transformer, followed by two stages of audio‑frequency amplification.

    The circuit incorporated neutralising condensers to minimise oscillation and improve selectivity. The design was adaptable to various valve types, typically 201A or Cossor Point‑One triodes. Recommended battery voltages were 6 V for filaments, 22 V for the detector plate, and 45–90 V for the audio stages.

    Cabinet and Layout
    The set was built on a wooden baseboard with a front panel approximately 24 × 8 inches. The published layout featured:

    • Two large variable condensers with vernier dials,
    • Two Aladdin coil tuners mounted behind the panel,
    • Four valve sockets,
    • Two audio transformers,
    • A headphone jack and battery switch.

    The Wireless Weekly article included both schematic and plan views, showing the wiring and component placement.
