Beschreibung |
Helium-filled full-wave rectifier. 350V PIV, 60mA DC.
Yr. 1927. Derived from the AMRAD S1 battery eliminator, when C.G. Smith moved from AMRAD to American Appliance Company, later Raytheon. Tube made with a brass UV base.
The tube was originated from the studies made years before by Smith on the spectrum of a blue star, Zeta Puppis, showing the presence of ionized helium. The helium-filled tube originated the name Raytheon, an euphonic neologism meaning 'light of gods', for the blue rays generated into operation. Another company in Indiana was claiming its priority in the name 'American Appliances Company', then on 25 October 1925 the name just proposed for the new rectifier was extended to the company.
Early productions in 1925 were run by Champion Lamp Works in Peabody, Massachusetts.
