In dem Museum wird die Geschichte Rechlins und seiner Umgebung erforscht, aufgearbeitet und museal dargestellt.
Das beginnt ab 1933 mit dem Aufbau der Erprobungsstelle der Luftwaffe des 3. Reiches, später dem Aufbau des VEB Schiffswerft, der sowjetischen Fliegerei und der Nationalen Volksarmee.
